Some (very annoying) bugs with Planet modding:

+ Even when you override *all* tile types for one scheme in TerrainColorSchemes (including new strings and query images), there are inevitably one or two Prairie tiles with the standard query graphic that appear on such customized worlds.

+ Likewise, overrides specified in only one scheme seem to leak into other ones (at least as far as the query images are concerned).

+ Thumbnails and Query images do not seem to be read out of the mods folder, only working when put in the real Gfx folder.

Potential Exploit:

+ Pressing 'T' with an AI planet selected allows you to issue rally points for them.

STRING NOT FOUND after upgrade to 1.20Beta. Reverting to 1.11 and the problem is gone. I have also tried to reinstall but the error occures again as soon as i update to 1.20.

Vesa, your game resolution does not match your desktop resolution.

Current Display Mode: 1280 x 1024 (32 bit) (60Hz)

Debug Message: Game Resolution: 1024 x 768
Debug Message: Running fullscreen.

When you upgrade it is a good idea to go into Options and check all the settings. If you can't get into Options try editing the Prefs.ini file so that the game res is the same as your desktop.

I don't know what you guys are doing but the latest updates have completely disabled my game. I just did the new update this morning and the game appears to load and then goes back to the desktop and nothing happens. Galciv.exe shows in my task manager and it shows that it is running but no game. I have to end program to get it to quit. Please correct this as I really like your games and have supported GC since it came out.

As with Vesa, it sounds like your game and desktop resolutions are mismatched.
1.2 has new options, and the Prefs.ini file is probably being replaced with the upgrade. Go into Options and check everything before you start a game.

I keep having crashes to desk top when the AI gets a random event. I would post my Err Debug... but I don't know how On a side note, how do you upgrade all ships at once?
on Jun 03, 2006
i have found that if an autoexplore ship is killed, the area aroud it is forever free of teh fog of war, as if the ship were still there.
i seem to remember it used to do this in other circumstances to do with gifted ships, cant remeber exactly, but in this case there was definitely no gifted ship involved.

After upgrade of 1.2 Beta 2 the Planets no longer have textures even with English Locale Setting. The debug.err shows some errors loding sphere.x.

encountered a very strange bug here. I was in the process of being mopped up by the drengin (congrats on the patch by the way, i used to be able to win most of the time on the highest levels, but no more!) and was down to my last planet.

for some reason, despite having many troop ships next to said (undefended) planet, they refused to invade and finish me off. I pressed 'turn' a few times, a few ships move about but still no invasion. the turns seemed to be taking much much longer than usual too. I then tried to access 'menu', and it would not appear. All other screens (planet, slider screen etc) appeared fine, but no menu. I clicked turn a few times more, same story, and it autosaved so that was working too.

eventually i had to close the game by clicking the cross (i was in windowed mode btw). I loaded up galciv again, loaded the autosave, and I could access menu again. Also, as soon as I pressed turn, they happily invaded my last planet to finish me off.

I will keep the savegame just in case it will help, but it doesnt seem to be repeatable. debug.err below:

I investigated the problem a little bit and found out that the sphere.x file wasn't replaced. It had the new date but was hte old file. After restoring the 1.11 I removed the old sphere.x file and reinstalled the beta and now it works.
on Jun 03, 2006
Whenever I load a saved game in 1.2 beta and previous versions, on the first turn I play after the load, no production or research takes place when I click the turn marker, but all my ships get reset to have full movement remaining. On the next turn everything behaves properly.

I can see in my longer games how many times I've loaded the game by looking at the timeline manufacturing graph where for each load there is a turn where all species had zero production.
on Jun 03, 2006
I noticed something odd. I got into a planet flipping domino effect last night and ended up winning by influence. Every time a planet flipped, the buildings started to upgrade but they didn't show in the build queue. Several turns later, I would get informed that the last improvement is complete, but I had no idea anything was being upgraded.
on Jun 03, 2006
I'm afraid I have to second Norad's bug. I used "upgrade all" to upgrade a bunch of ships and it only charged me for one. I investigated a little further, and no matter if i upgraded 49 ships or 4 ships, it still only charged me for one. I have the save game and everything if the stardock people need it.
on Jun 03, 2006
Nobody has commented on my endless take over bug.... Am I the only one this has happened to?
on Jun 03, 2006
I'm also getting the very cheap upgrades, but only after playing for a good while.

Moving ships in stacks is getting a little funky. Sometimes I have to click a planet & then reclick the stack so I can move ships.

I had just played another game (until I started having lag/memory issues) but as sw4708 found, it only charges for 1 ship upgrade, no matter how many. I upgraded 140 med. hull ships for 960bc and while it is sweet when lacking funds, it has a drastic effect on the game. This was just a test game to build up my fleet so I could figure out what the upgrade all was doing while trying to keep the peace with everyone. I'm certain it was the huge amount of fully armor/weapon tech upgraded ships along with the AI's many transports in my space that caused my lag issue.
